海角社区 — FT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 28, 2012) 鈥 What we know 鈥 an unarmed 17 year old African-American young man is dead and that another man, is using Florida鈥檚 鈥淐astle Doctrine鈥 or 鈥淪tand Your Ground鈥 law to shield himself from prosecution. What we don鈥檛 know 鈥 is there protection under these doctrines for anyone who pursues and subsequently confronts people?
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) has subject matter experts available to speak on the 鈥淪tand Your Ground鈥 law and its broad and seemingly far-reaching implications: Bob Jarvis, J.D., a professor of law at NSU鈥檚 Shepard Broad Law Center and Gary Gershman, J.D., Ph.D., who spoke recently on this very topic.
Gary Gershman, J.D., Ph.D.Associate Professor of Legal Studies and History
Gershman serves as chair of the Legal Studies program at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at Nova Southeastern University. He holds a law degree from Villanova School of Law and a Masters and PhD in history from Duke University. Gershman teaches classes in American history, Government, Constitutional law and history, and Genocide and the Holocaust.

Bob Jarvis, J.D., is a frequent legal commentator and has authored 18 books and more than 100 articles. Jarvis' work has been cited in decisions of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, Hawaii Supreme Court, Florida District Court of Appeal, and New York Supreme Court.
